Psoriasis is often so mild it is barely noticed by the affected person, but it can occasionally so severe the patient must be admitted to hospital for treatment. Psoriasis is probably one of the longest known illnesses of humans and simultaneously one of the most misunderstood. A complete medical history and examination of the skin, nails, and scalp are the basis for a diagnosis of psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a skin disease that takes a toll on the confidence of a person. It is characterized by silvery scales or plaques on skin. Skin cells are easily lost. Skin will also be dry. Panchakarma, the basic body purification method is used in the treatment of psoriasis. Guggul is an Ayurvedic herb useful in treating difficult conditions of psoriasis and eczema.

Apart from the application of medicines, you can follow a few restrictions and general rules to avoid the occurrence of scalp problems at large. Dandruff occurs mainly out of dry scalp problems and hence it can be restricted by keeping the scalp clean and moisturized. Contact dermatitis is tackled by the doctors by studying scalp problem photos applicable in your case and suggesting antibiotics or steroids accordingly.

For example, if you have constipation, you have to improve it to have healthier skin. If you have kidney issues or if you don’t drink enough water, all the toxins will go out through the skin. Working on the liver will also help, because the liver is the organ where all the toxins are going through. You have to work on the liver for a better detox of the body.

Another cause for dandruff and dry scalp is cold weather. The scalp surface becomes dry in cold weather. It then easily flakes off and sheds its dead skin cells that in turn, result in dandruff. Allergic reaction to some food and nutritional deficiency in the diet can be major reasons for dandruff. Deficiency of omega 3 acids and B-complex vitamins can cause the dead skin cells of the scalp to flake off excessively. Excessive use of chemically rich hair cosmetics like gels, sprays, dyes and coloring chemicals causes flaking of the dead skin cells from the scalp by leading to roughness and dryness of the scalp.

However, the topical application of the saturated fats - i.e. the Coconut oil, which consist of about 90% saturated fat - is reported to be very beneficial for psoriasis. Mainly due to its high saturated fat content, Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer and softener for psoriasis.

As with any acne treatment, Aloe Vera users must be patient.
